Can i print stickers and sell logos of popular companys and not infringe copyright laws?
I have a vinyl sticker cutting business and i wanted to cut and sell popular logos. i.e. fox racing or burton snowboarding. Is it illegal to print and sell these logos.
Answers:
Yes it is illegal. It is usually not copy write but trademark infringement. They can, and in many cases will, sue you. Most big companies are sensitive to that stuff and keep what is called and open contract out for private investigators to give them info on perps.
You'd be violating trademark laws unless you got the trademark owners permission.
Yes, it is illegal. Would anybody buy your sticker simply because you made it and put your name on it?
A large portion of the value on that sticker is coming from the reputation of the company and the rights that they have to their name.
If you choose to do this, you can probably get by with it for a while, but the potential problems would outweigh the potential revenue. If you really want to do this, come up with your own stickers, find logos or images or sayings in the public domain, or get the companies permission first.
ADDED: No, you can't claim to be a re-seller. Are you having trouble understanding the concept of right and wrong?
How in the heck does lying about the origin of the stickers make this situation any better in your mind? Trust me, that will only greatly increase their resolve to punish you when they find out you have been selling them this way.
Nope.
