Need help with apartment rules! any suggestions?

Hi there! I've lived in this apartment complex for nearly a year now, and I have never had a problem with parking until now. This new neighbor of ours is buying cars at an impound, and parking them in the lot! I practically have to park about a mile away. I went to my landlord about the cars, and she said there's nothing they can do since they are tagged(they all have temporary license plates). They won't do nothing about it! This guy has five cars, and the lease clearly states one car per person! What should I do? Thanks!

If the lease says one car per person, then why is the landlord allowing your neighbor to park more than one car? Did you point this fact out to him when you complained?

It sounds like your neighbor is "flipping" cars, and therefore running a business out of the apartment building, which may be illegal. That is one recourse you can pursue. It's usually against local laws to operate an automotive related business out of a residential location without permits.
Well first of all, don;t the tenants at the apartment complex have disgnated parking spaces though? You can report him to the city hall parking and watever dept. and theyll order him to buy parking stickers to park on the street or u can if u want but either one. or report him about the lease contract and junk and theyll take away his cars
I suppose it really depends if you like living there or not, If you do like living there then I would take a copy of your lease and point out the clause that shows that there is only one car per apartment allowed. If they don't intend to follow the lease to the letter then you could be considered to be free of YOUR end of the lease (the requirement to fulfill the full term of the lease. Another option would be to ask for each apartment to be given a numbered parking space. In any case, your going to have to work with the manager of the apartment to resolve this problem. If nothing works, then write a letter to the owner of the apartment describing the problem and the steps you have taken with the manager. **here is the important part** Get some OTHER neighbors to sign the letter, then mail it off.

but no mater what be polite!.. gettin mad costs you more in the long run than your going to be willing to buy.

<even more edit>

I read some responses after I posted mine and have to add that if this problem is on private property (which it probably is if the parking is addressed in the lease) then the police will have no interest in dealing with what is a civil mater.
There must a provincial/state, or city board with powers and responsibilities for landlord and tenant affairs. If your lease states you have parking priviledges, and they are not protecting those priviledges, they can be ordered to do so. If the lease states each tenant is allowed to park one car, and somebody has enough that all the spaces are filled, the landlord can be ordered to apply the policy evenly and fairly. If the neighbour has been selling cars, he can be reported for operating a business without proper zoning, and likely without a business licence.
since you state it is a violation of the lease, then the manager is clearly not doing his part to uphold the lease agreement.i would calmly tell the manager that if this issue is not resolved in due course you will contact your attorney.talk to the attorney about putting your rent in an escrow account.you are entitled to one parking spot ON the property! good luck!
