Can license agreements be legal without a signature? (ie. by email)?

I am publishing a website for a non-profit org. which will include many archived photos. I need to create a license agreement for models in photos - without it being overly complicated. Is there a way to keep it legal but use email instead of snail mail?

Answers:
There are ways to insert a 'signature' of sorts, but they can be duplicated, and replicated.

To be perfectly honest, I would encourage you to use a fax + mail option. They can download so much with a faxed signature (or e-mail copy) but you need an "inked" copy on hand after 2 weeks.
Yes and no. You could have them print out what you send then sign the scan and send back. Or in cases Simply stating that this message being forwarded back is recognized by all parties that as a signed document. However if dealing with much money etc might want to talk to someone that really know like a lawyer possibly.
