Should Maddy McCanns parentbe charged with child endangerment?

If every parent that lost a child due to their own neglect were exempt from legal responsibility because of the weight of that loss, then society has failed to protect children.

Answers:
I do not think that Madeline's parents should be charged with child endangerment. They may have been naive in believing their child would be safe, but their culpability in her disappearance is minimal. They were nearby, and although their daughter was left alone, they had not themselves subjected her to any danger. The danger was caused by whoever it was that decided to enter the room. We would not be saying that it was the parent's fault had that intruder gone in there and taken the child had a babysitter been there - who is to say that somebody babysitting would have been able to stop the intruder? Yes, her parents did make a huge mistake in leaving their child alone, but what sort of justice would there be in punishing people who have already been punished enough by their loss. Everybody makes mistakes - but I am sure thousands of people have left children alone like this and they have come to no harm. Who would truly foresee such an eventuality from simply leaving a child for a short period of time in what what presumably a secure place?
Not charging the McCanns would not underline a society that fails to protect children, but simply one that considers the circumstances and therefore the culpability of the individuals involved.
When I first heard about the disappearance, I wondered where the babysitter was. When it came out there was no babysitter, I was wondering when they would be arrested. Anyone else would have been. I am with you on this. Their actions caused their daughters disappearance, they should be held accountable.
Yes, unless they have more to do with the disappearance than they're letting on.
