Legal or not?
I interviewed for a promotional job where I had 2 1/2 years experience on the job. It required computer knowledge, typing skills, and a working knowledge of safety and OSHA regulations. I have excellent repor with the people I work with. I had all of these. I also know, because the person making the selection told me, that I had the highest score in the interview process. This person also told me I was bypassed for someone with no experience in anything. I interviewed for a second position with the same type of requirements (different job, insurance, I have a excellent knowledge and ability to do). Again I scored highest. Bypassed again. Their excuse was that I wasn't attending certain meetings. The people put into the jobs weren't either. I just wondered if this is discrimination or not? The selections made, along with others besides these have all been white, caucasian men and women. I am a minority. Please no rude comments. I am not being prejudice.

Carrie, it just might come down to you might be overqualified for the position. Most companies hire for the least amount of money and the most productivity they can get. Burn that applicant out, and find another.
It's legal until you have proof of discrimination
Maybe they just like to hire idiots.
Or, perhaps the racial quote for "Affirmative Action" has already been met and someone just wants to get the white people in.
If you're scoring the highest, go to a job where they will pick you on your merits, and not your skin color.
If you are not attending required meetings, they may have a basis to act as they do. Pointing out that others do not attend does not help you. You should do all you can to meet and exceed the job requirements and show that you are more qualified and dedicated than the rest. That is the best way to get ahead.
This is a difficult question. The way you described it, it sounds like discrimination. You should talk to a lawyer. Only they could tell you whether it is discrimination or not.
If you suspect racism, contact the EEOC and see what your options are. Depending on the company size and business practices, they may have to prove that you were bypassed because of issues other than race.
Of course, if you complain, you need to keep logs of all actions taken by your employer from the date you file a complaint, to build a file which you can use in the event they take retributive action (which they are unable to do so under federal law.)
all jobs have stipulations to fire people whenever they want to. If ur a minute late one day...they can use that excuse and say ur tardiness has effected the work production and fire you. If ur work performance has dropped slightly, they can fire you. That's the shitty part of working for corporations or even micromanaging. You can file a complaint, but they have a legitament excuse. If you missed meetings, than there's the stipulation. They can possibly be descriminating...but that's america. If that's the case, you probably don't want to work for them anyway. I'm being glib, but working with honest people is an anomally these days.
good luck and don't be discouraged.i'm sure there are worse things than being dismissed from a job...like not being able to apply for a job because of a felony charges : (
Hello,
No thats not racism thats bias becouse you did the samething just better now if you had attended the meetings then yeh, you would have something to work with. You cannot erase 389 plus years of bad blood over night, but you can follows rules.
Do the best you can Sis learn the rules and the norms and fight for equality. You think you have your hands full try dealing with white and black women who hate L.O.L.
Peace and Grace in Jesus
like willy loman in miller's "death of a salesman" professed one must be "well liked" to succeed in life. now that is not an easy task for bi-polar types like you seem to be. you cannot be "well liked" if you walk around depressed and avoiding meetings that pertain to you getting the job you are applying for. it makes no sense. either you want the job and do what is necessary or you are ambiguous about the whole thing and have chip on your shoulder. you really are not talking about a job high enough up there to be worth starrting a race riot and risking prejudicial treatement. silly idea. you are more concerned about proving that point, discrimination, than getting the job. i suggest you rethink the whole idea. you are dead wrong. clean out your head. you nor the job is important enough in the scheme of things to matter to those who decide. they just wouldnt let it happen. too risky for such a small matter. the matter is you and your obsession. get over it. forget about it. if they have meetings, by god go! if they say jump over the chair, jump the chair. show you really want it and are willing to outdo the others. leave no stone unturned. you failed to do that didn't you.? you did it to yourself.
ok i would say no from what you've said sounds to me like they just know important people. and either you don't or you don't use them anyway check with the labor bored or the bbb - the better business bureau. i'm sure you could simply use a search engine to find what you need and speak with one of their people they should be able to give you the most accurate information about your topic at hand. also the bbb is more for reporting so i don't know how much they will help but they may investigate if its a big enough problem among people.
May be your are not the right type of minority.
