Do you genuinly believe in freedom of speech?
Assuming that this freedom applies to everyone ,including those who don't share your beliefs, do you still support it?
Answers:
It is an illusion.
People can twist what you say legally.
Why do you think politicians get elected.
People get fired especially if they are whistle blowers or tell how dishonest business owners are.
Even Peace Officers have their careers destroyed.
As far the Bill of Rights go, I believe it's only freedom of political speech.
I really don't mind what another person says regardless of where they come from, thier beliefs, or race... but sometimes when somebody says something to me I think." Man I wish there was a law on that!"
And as far as being able to say WHATEVER you want? No, I don't believe in that. I say that because of children... there are some things that should never be said to children, but they do.
That's what freedom of speech is. It is allowing others to speak thier beliefs even if you don't agree so you may speak your beliefs as well. If you take away their speech, they can take away yours. Most people don't understand that. ALL speech should be free. Even hate speech, it's a necessary evil, because once that's taken away, it becomes easier to take other speech away. In time, any speech that represents the minority will be banned.
I believe in my own freedom of speech and to hell with anyone else but then I am a liberal.
sarcasm
I believe in freedom of speech as long as that speech doesn't infringe upon another's freedoms. I don't remember who coined the phrase, but someone once said, "The freedom to swing my fist ends where the other guy's nose begins."
