My license expired yesterday and today I was not allowed to purchase a lottery ticket or cigarettes.?
I live in Florida. Was it legal for the gas station attendant to deny me the right to purchase based on an expired id? Florida Statutes state that "proof of age is required" for tobacco. I haven't found anything that said it had to be current. I'm not sure what the law is governing lotto tickets.

Well, looking at it from the law standpoint, if it is expired, it is no longer a government issued identification - it is merely a piece of plastic with info on it. Seeing that they must take proof of age, and that the proof must be something commonly accepted as "valid", then an expired license is not it.
Just go get a new one, and until then, have someone get your stuff for you.
stores can opt not to use a expired license as it is not considered a "valid" form of ID by the government. Yes they were within their rights to deny the sale of items requiring proof of age.
They have every right to do that. You probably won't be able to write checks or use your credit card either...It's your responsibility to ensure that your identification is current and legal, and it is their responsibility to not accept inactive IDs.
Proof of age is a valid government issued ID with a picture and birth date on it. If it is expired that means another one should have been issued and the expired one could have been found or passed on to a look alike for the purposes of underage drinking, smoking or gambling. The only form of ID that is valid after it expires is a Passport which i think can be used for up 10 years adter expiration.
I'm sure they could have sold it to you, unless they have an invalid ID law.
Sounds like a personal problem you should have taken care of it before it expired. Don't be blaming others for your stupidity.

The good news is there is a grace period with the DMV/DPS. You have a certain amount of time after official expiration of a normal drivers license to have it renewed without having to take tests again. hurry up and get it fixed, or you will be skrewing yourself.
You do not have a "right" to buy cigarettes and lottery tickets. He could refuse to sell to you because he thought you were funny looking and he would be within his right to operate his business as he sees fit.
