My employer does not provide me a reference letter for a migration purpose...?
I really need a reference letter from my employer to apply for a Permanent Residency in another country.
Reasons for them not providing letter given me were
1The letter will not bring any benefits to the company
2Why the company has to help my PR application in another contry, which could possibly assist me to leave the company.
I belive that I as an employee has a right to get a reference letter no matter what the reason it is. I am not asking for anything illegal nor impossible. The company does not have a right to mess up my personal freedom to move to overseas, either.
Are there any way I can convince the company or is there any law stating that company has to provide a letter??
Could anyone help me, please?
Answers:
Employers are under zero obligation to provide reference letters for employees.
Co-workers are under zero obligation to provide references.
What I often do is arrange reciprocal references.
Someone leaves the company, with whom I have had a close working relationship. I offer to write a reference letter for their use, and ask them to write one for me.
They have the "right" to give you a letter, not a "responsibility" to give you one.
If they are asking you to migrate, that would be different. But other than that, I don't know why they would even want to do so. You need to stop whining and trying to make them and find a way to give them a REASON to do it. IF it brought them benefits, they would hop right to it.
They have no legal obligation to write any such letter for you. As for the company having the right to mess up your personal freedom, yes they do, in this case.
