Why does everyone think police need a warrant to search ur car?

i see all these questions on here and these answerers say they need a warrant to search a vehicle. thats b.s. . here in texas they only need "reasonable suspicion" that a crime is occuring {{ for example, they "smell" weed... theyll ask for ur consent to search, but ur answer means nothing, theyll search anyways}} to search ur vehicle. i have marijuana arrests in my past, when i get pulled over and they run my license im always asked for consent to search. i reply "no you may not search" and they go right ahead and search....
I dont have any cases pending. my question is more of a response to all the dummies that say "the cops need a warrant to search your car"...
if ur white and pulled over in the 'hood, youre gettin searched. if ur white ridin with blacks, ur gettin searched. thats profiling and its illegal BUT ITS COMMON PLACE
ive never been caught by a search of my car. i have been caught with weed when arrested, and searched at the jail... the trick they do then is enhance the charge to a felony for "carrying into a correctional facility", thus violating my right not to incriminate myself. if you ask me if i have weed on my person and i refuse to answer, its ur job to find it. i bear no legal burden to snitch on myself. {{{it turns out, i was stupid for hiding my bud in my sock and getting caught with it at the jail.}} misdemeanor yes, felony no

Because people watch too much TV.
If the "reasonable suspicion" is so obvious that the average lawyer can't argue it--such as the cops smelling pot--then it is, indeed, reasonable. But if it's not that obvious, then they absolutely need a warrant. For example, if they find your girlfriend's body in an alley, they can't search your car without a warrant; anything they find would be inadmissable. They would have to convince a judge that there really *is* "reasonable suspicion" (you two were seen fighting before her death, and interestingly, you're the beneficiary of her life insurance policy), thus getting the warrant.

You're right that people should be forewarned about the former example.
Wow Texas Justice

Dumb meets dumberer
The unfortunate reality is that a Cop can do whatever they want. All you can do is cooperate and hope you are dealing with a cop that respects the laws.

I lived in Texas, and I was told by a cop that all they need to search your vehicle is signs of nervousness. Who isn't nervous when you get pulled over?
in texas they can search and will if they want to with or without permission. get a lawyer get a lawyer in tesas in texas period period
that reasonable suspicion only allows them to search the cabin of a car...ie plain sight.they may not search under your hood or in your trunk unless somehting they find inside the cabin gives them more than that reasonable suspicion
What makes a cop think he can search anything, REGARDLESS!? If I have a tag light out there is no need to search me. My gf was stopped & searched bc the dirty cop says he had calls that she was stumbling at the store. She had a broken toe and was at the store to get ice for my beer. I don't drive after drinking so she was sober. However, not 5 min. after I caught that PUNK COP stalking me from the weeds. I hit him in the forehead with a beer bottle. He was so pissed that he couldn't do anything so he tried to call the fire dept. on me. Talk about pissed off people. He called it in in the middle of a Monday night football game. I went to the PD the next day and asked the chief if he saw what I had done to his buddy and that made him mad. Not at me, though. I informed him that if I caught him again I wouldn't let him escape without seriously beating him. To this day if they need something from me they send 2 cops then the chief comes by afterto ask if they were there and if they were respectful about it. Sometimes you have to man up. Cops understand violence and when they are in the wrong they learn how it comes untorqued on them. Do not think that my action was proper but in my case it was the ONLY way to let them know I was fed up ! It took forever to find an attorney to believe it, and he put me in contact with the OSBI. They eventually took him out of the copping game. But I thought I would have to kill him first. It is not a good thing to have your mind made up that you are willing to die for killing a cop.
