How can a court case be dismissed because of a lack of interpreter?

In Maryland? there is a man charged with sex abuse on aminor and his case was dismissed because they couldn't find a interpreter. What kind of country is this when a child rapist could go free because he can't speak english? This country is *** backwards and even setting the most violent and predatory people loose on the streets because of the BS like this.

How hard can it be to find a interpreter, through the local courts or the state dept?

Answers:
This case makes me angry. He went to school, both HS and college in this country. He is talking to his lawyer in English, spoke to the police in English and threatened and intimidated this little girl in English. Now all of a sudden he needs an interpreter? It is BS and just a way of getting out of the charges. They found several interpreters, but his lawyer had them all dismissed for various reasons. Another case of the criminal given all the rights and the victim none.
The state has the the responsibility to ensure a fair and speedy trial. They failed to do so . . . They should all be fired.
The same way Libby's sentence was commuted.
I heard about this case. Apparently the man spoke some tribal language that very few people in the world speak.
However, I don't think he should have been released. He should have been held in custody until an interpreter could be found.
As a young resident of Maryland this is very disturbing.
I'm going to be watching my back.
Because our courts are filled with idiots. You watch, next time, that guy is going to kill someone. And the judge will feel NO guilt.
It was dismissed after 3 years. That's a long time. The court should have been working much harder to find an interpreter. The only reason they needed one is because a court appointed psychiatrist said it would be helpful. But come on, if he can go to a damn community college in the US, and he spoke to detectives in English, then he should be tried in English. This is America after all, where the official language is English. Someone who can get through 4 years of college must know enough English to understand what's going on in court. It seems to me like a strategy made by his attorneys to get him off the hook. It's sick to see an underage sex offender like that go free. I mean, if nobody speaks his language, then how does he get by living in America?
