Kind of a miitary question about familys stationed overseas?
My ex-husband is claiming he can not locate his birth certificate or social security card. He was born in france his father was stationed there with the U.S. army. Yes he is an american citizen) His father is know deceased and he has no contact with his very elderly mother. There must be some way of reattaining these records. Who has them, where should he start inquiring about these records....I have no clue how this system works. Plese help......Serious, informative answers only please....

Your ex should contact the Judge Advocate General (JAG) office at the nearest military base for assistance. He should provide the JAG wwith the date and location of his birth. If he was born in a military hospital, the ith was recorded somewhere in the US. If he was born in a local, civilian facility, it would have been recoded with the local authorities and he has/had dual citizenship.
If he needs a Social Security card, he can contact the Social Security Administration for a replacement.
