Would the US be improved by allowing married couples to receive welfare benefits?

Answers:
Anyone can receive welfare benefits if their income meets the guidelines... this includes singles, married couples, or couples that just live together. For example, when my parents were just married and starting out, my family received food stamps. My dad was working full time and my mom was staying at home with my sister and I (we are born exactly one year apart). Of course, that was for a short time period until they were able to get on their feet, which I know isn't always the case. But the point is that anyone can receive benefits, regardless of marital status.
I know that the married couples' lives would be improved - that may be an indirect benefit to the US as a whole.
Why? Should we them build them little huts behind our houses and dictate what jobs they do? Maybe hire an overseer or two?
Depends are they unable to work? I don't believe in an able body receiving welfare if they can get a job. Can you sling a burger or mow someones grass? Then NO. Get a job. Welfare is for people who cannot work at all,and for the babies daddies thing I believe a defiantly NO!!
I think it would eliminate the need for many people to remain unmarried for financial benefit..

I know a woman, whose first husband died, so she gets ss for herself and 2 of her children.

for 7 years, she has lived with a guy, had another kid together, and will not get married out of fear of loosing her ss check...

There are people who remain unmarried for the earned income credits, and for other forms of financial support.
NO.

An improvement would be a welfare to work program that forced able bodied citizens on welfare to seek and find a job within a given time frame.

Handing out free money to poor people, old people, sick people and lazy people does not improve our status as a country. It just helps to keep us emotionally content with being "good" human beings.
