Is it really true that the legal age of consent is 17?
My cousin is 17 and her boyfriend is 18. They've been together for over a year and yes, they have sex. Both of their parents have known about the relationship all along (but not about how intimate they get). Now my cousin is worried that it's illegal since her bf turned 18. But i've heard that 17 is the age of consent, although I'm not sure. Can her parents really put the boyfriend in jail if they find out something?
They live in California.
Answers:
The legal age of consent depends on the location that you are in. Not all areas have the same laws.
18
it's illegal for minors (anyone below 18) to have sex, period. but everyone knows that law is complete bull. Tghere was a time before chirtistianity when it was embarassing and ethically wrong to be a virgin. That's probably the only custom that kept the jews from extinction. I don't know it the parents can put him in jail, but If they can, it's the biggest flaming pile of bullshit i've ever heard.
California Penal Code 261.5. (a) Unlawful sexual intercourse is an act of sexual intercourse ... ... if the [other] person is a minor. For the purposes of this section, a "minor" is a person under the age of 18 years...
If the minor is within three years (older or younger) than the perpetrator, it is a misdemeanor.
Yes they can. A minor at the age of (varies per state) can have sex with another minor but not with a person over 18. But if they havent had sex since he turned 18 then there is nothing the parents can do.
No she has nothing to worry about because 16 is the legal age to have sex. So stop worrying it will all be ok.
